Experience the fascinating elemental power of Georgia—reimagined with modern precision—with the Rkatsiteli 2020 from Vellino. Winzer Beka Jimsheladze achieves the perfect balancing act: he seamlessly bridges millennia-old, classical Georgian winemaking traditions with a clean, contemporary style. Crafted from carefully selected grapes, this expressive amber wine (orange wine) is full of depth and beauty, shining in the glass with a warm, inviting amber hue. An absolute must-have for lovers of character-driven natural wines.
The autochthonous grape variety Rkatsiteli is the most widely planted white grape in Georgia and the undisputed icon of the Kakheti wine region. It is world-renowned for its mmeense breadth, structural expressiveness, and aromatic complexity. When the Rkatsiteli grape is skin-fermented in the traditional manner, it unfolds its full potential: it yields wines with astonishing depth, natural tannins, and a fascinating balance of ripe fruit and vibrant spice.
The Rkatsiteli 2020 from Vellino owes its extraordinary structure to traditional Georgian vinification: the wine remains on the skins for a full 6 months of fermentation in the Qvevri—the large clay amphorae buried deep within the earth. This prolonged aging period lends the wine its multifaceted dimension and muscle.
On the Nose: The immense presence is clear from the very first sniff. A rich bouquet of dried fruits, ripe apricots, and sweet figs unfolds, elegantly accompanied by a fine, subtly spicy, and ethereal note.
On the Palate: Broad, powerful, and muscular. The Rkatsiteli 2020 from Vellino completely coats the mouth with a dense, multi-layered structure. The noticeable yet perfectly ripe tannins give the body excellent hold, blending with the deep texture into an expressive, complex overall picture.
The Finish: Long, harmonious, and carried by a gripping, mineral-spicy depth that perfectly reflects the true character of Kakheti.
Thanks to its robust tannin structure, the Rkatsiteli 2020 from Vellino is a brilliant food partner that effortlessly holds its own against bold flavors. It pairs beautifully with grilled or braised poultry and veal, traditional Georgian dishes like Khachapuri, aromatic skillet dishes with walnuts and cilantro, as well as mature, intense alpine cheeses.
Tip from oneder.wine: Since this is a structured amber wine, it is best treated like a red wine. Avoid serving it too cold (12–14 °C is ideal) and use a larger glass so the aromatic breadth of this fascinating grape variety can fully unfold.
