Vellino is the winery of Beka Jimsheladze in Kakabeti, in the heart of Kakheti — a region in eastern Georgia, a country widely regarded as the cradle of winemaking. After several years working in finance, he decided in 2015 to return to his native village to revive his family’s winemaking tradition and shape his own voice in wine. Today he cultivates around 3.5 hectares of vineyards planted with indigenous grape varieties such as Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Kisi, Tavkveri and Saperavi.
His work follows the principle of minimum impact and remains closely connected to the natural rhythms of the region. The wines are made in Qvevri — large clay amphorae traditionally buried in the ground, where both the extended skin fermentation and the subsequent ageing of the wines take place. In this way they gain structure, depth and a distinctive sense of origin.
Beka’s wines carry the atmosphere of Kakheti — its warmth, openness and the quiet continuity of a landscape where wine has long been part of everyday life. Tradition and present-day awareness come together in a clear and personal interpretation, resulting in authentic wines that express grape variety, terroir and craftsmanship with immediacy and precision.
