Pinot Noir R, AOC Alsace 2019, Domain Gross

Alsace | France

Character & Style

A lively Pinot Noir with clear fruit and subtle spice. Black cherry, redcurrant and dark berries shape the nose, accompanied by subtle herbal notes. On the palate, the wine is juicy and fresh, with fine, well-integrated tannins and a pleasantly lean structure. A touch of sour cherry brings additional tension, while a slightly savoury, deliberately unpolished edge gives the wine character. The finish remains fresh, fruit-driven and lightly spicy. A Pinot Noir with a light structure, precise fruit and lively tension.

Origin & Vinification

The vines grow on loess soils and are farmed organically according to biodynamic principles. The grapes are harvested by hand.

Fermentation is spontaneous, with 20 days on the skins – with Vincent Gross, one would hardly expect otherwise. The wine then ages for 8 months on its full lees in wooden barrels. Pinot Noir R is bottled unfiltered and without added sulphur. Production of the 2019 vintage is limited to around 1,200 bottles.
