Nestled among the gently rolling hills of Costigliole d’Asti, in the historic wine region of Monferrato, lies the winery of Andrea Scovero. When people think of Piedmont, they often picture the powerful, intensely tannic Barolos of the Langhe—wines that typically require years of aging before revealing their full character. Yet, with just 6 hectares of vineyards in the province of Asti, Andrea Scovero proves that this corner of Piedmont can produce wines with a completely different personality: vibrant, juicy, energetic, and wonderfully approachable.
Scovero’s vineyards are shaped like a natural amphitheater, a unique topographical feature that plays a crucial role in the quality of his wines. It protects the vines from extreme weather conditions, captures the Piedmontese sun to perfection, and allows cool nighttime breezes to circulate freely through the vineyard, ensuring ideal ventilation for the grapes. The soils are rich in calcareous marl, clay, and sandy sediments—a mineral treasure that gives the wines their distinctive saline elegance and refined structure.
Andrea Scovero is no newcomer to winemaking. Deeply rooted in the region, he learned the craft from his grandfather and proudly continues his family's tradition into its fourth generation. Rather than following the industrial conventions of modern winemaking, Andrea has chosen to return to nature. For him, making wine means listening to the vineyard's ecosystem and intervening as little as possible.
In the vineyards, Scovero consistently avoids synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers. Cover crops encourage biodiversity between the vines, keeping the soils alive and strengthening the natural resilience of the plants. Every grape is harvested by hand in autumn and carefully sorted—only pristine fruit makes its way into the cellar.
Andrea's uncompromising natural wine philosophy continues in the cellar. His winemaking follows the rhythms of nature rather than the rules of the laboratory:
Andrea Scovero masterfully explores Piedmont's traditional grape varieties while always following his own path:
With only 6 hectares of vineyards under cultivation, Andrea Scovero's annual production is extremely limited. His wines can be found in some of the world's finest natural wine bars, from Tokyo to Paris to New York. At oneder.wine, we bring these rare treasures from Piedmont directly to your doorstep. These are not wines made for mass consumption—they are wines for those who appreciate authentic craftsmanship, distinctive character, and the pure joy of a truly living wine.
