Alazani Valley × Vellino × OneDerWine
In Georgia, there’s a word for something that goes far beyond dinner: Supra.
Literally, it means tablecloth. But what it really describes is people coming together to eat, drink wine, share stories and raise a glass to life. At a Supra, food and wine simply belong together.
On 12 November, we’re bringing a little of that tradition to Munich. Together with the Georgian restaurant Alazani Valley and the Vellino winery, we’re hosting our very first Winemaker Dinner.
Behind Vellino is Beka Jimsheladze. He’s part of the young generation of winemakers from Kakheti, yet he puts his trust in methods that have worked in Georgia for thousands of years: Qvevri, long skin fermentation and plenty of patience. Why does he work this way? He’ll tell us himself.
And then there’s the food: pkhali, shkmeruli, khachapuri, khinkali. Some dishes you might already know, others you’ll be trying for the first time (a little tip: khinkali are eaten with your hands).
Finding the perfect food and wine pairing is only a small part of the evening. What we really want to understand is what a Supra means to Georgia. What role does wine play, and what about food? Can you even separate the two? Perhaps the best way to find out is to take a seat at the table.
Georgian wine. Georgian food. 28 seats at one table.
